A Top Global Markets report has revealed that the console software market suffered a 13% decline in UK sales when compared to figures from this time last year. The figure will come as a surprise to many with the gaming industry seemingly benefiting from a wider range of title choice and development as of late.
The figure relates to a three month period up to September 2009. The industry suffered worldwide with the American market suffering a 9% drop and the Japanese experiencing a 19% year-to-date sales decline.
UK portable game software was hit with a 34% slide in unit sales followed by console software which saw a 12% cut. It is thought the reasoning behind this could be the scarcity of 'big-name' releases during this period. The figures look set to be pulled back however with a host of major releases over the next month and obviously the busy Christmas period creeping upon us.
