When a follow up to Twilight Princess was announced at E3, it was the news all of us Zelda geeks were waiting for. Along with the announcement, Nintendo also released a teaser image to whet our Hyrulian appetites. Naturally, this only posed several questions - Will it be a direct sequel to Twilight Princess? Will it be playable only with MotionPlus? When can I have it? Does that girl look like a sword? And so on.
In a recent Q&A session, Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that the, as yet untitled, next Wii instalment will indeed use MotionPlus. "We're using MotionPlus to make you feel much more like you're actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand," Miyamoto said. "In the previous game, you aimed at things by pointing at the screen, but this time we'll use MotionPlus to create a much more convenient targeting system and a more pleasurable playing experience."
So it's not exactly surprising news, but it's still unclear whether MotionPlus is a necessity or if the regular Wii-motes will be enough to satisfy our sword play. Not that it really matters as I expect anyone devoted enough to the franchise will not mind spending a bit extra on the peripheral.
As far as story goes, Miyamoto states that the game wouldn't be "radically different" to the previous game. Which is perfectly fine by me, but I can imagine this comment will divide fans as many complained that Twilight Princess was merely more of the same.
Zelda Wii 2 is due for release at some point in 2010, but this being Nintendo you can probably expect it at some point in 2013. Still, I look forward to the release of further images that are sure to test my waiting patience.
